understanding alcoholism alcoholic
Do you believe that Alcoholism is a disease?
I am a recovering alcoholic (over 2 1/2 years of sobriety) and I’m really not sure that I would call it a disease. I mean, IT IS VERY REAL and normal people can’t understand what it’s like… AA did save my life (I would probably be dead now if it weren’t for AA), but I think that they (AA) insist on it as a disease to make us feel like victims. It is a complete obsession with Alcohol, but I don’t know that it is truly a disease.
I agree that it is more of a mental illness than a disease… to answer your question, I am 25 years old. I was a full-fledged alcoholic and drug addict before I was 20.
Yes of course i do,i was a binge drinker myself,i could go months without a drink but when i had one i drunk to excess,my family helped me change my way of thinking and now i can have two beers and stop. It’s more a mental condition than anything else,i just changed the way i thought about it.
