famous alcoholics alcoholism

famous alcoholics alcoholism
Where have the famous alcoholics gone?

Seems like there are no more “cool” alcoholics left in this World. Where are the Poe’s, Hemingway’s, van Gogh’s of this generation? Now, they all just check into rehab, because it makes them visible…

Three part question here…
-Who is your favorite alcoholic throughout history?
-If you have one, I would love to read an entertaining/interesting historical event tied to this person (preferably involving him or her inebriated, but not necessarily–ie: van Gogh chopping that left ear lobe)
-Who do you think has potential to go down in history as a modern famous alcoholic? (Hunter S Thompson?).

Look forward to some responses and reading about the history. If you think I’m trying to belittle alcoholism, or make fun of members of your family who are addicted, then this is not the thread for you. I want to read about fun alcoholics, not your lazy Uncle Joe.

Thank you!

Excellent observation. The drug of choice has changed from alcohol to crack and the like.

Vincent wasn’t an alcoholic, he was manic depressive and syphilis helped him in the end (no pun intended).

Ernest Hemingway.
